As soon as you walk into rental Villa Serenity, you understand its name. Although situated on the hillside just above St Barts' main town of Gustavia, this tranquil spot fairly oozes serenity. With its beautifully maintained gardens and long, long pool deck, the outside spaces create a harmonious spot for relaxing or entertaining.

Simplicity is the keynote throughout the villa, but a sophisticated simplicity. Stylish and elegant and as uncluttered as possible, even the top-of-the-line kitchen is streamlined and practical for easy cooking. In contrast to the sun-drenched tropical colours outdoors, the calm restfulness of the uninterrupted black and white décor could be in a different world.

The layout is also simple, with every room opening to the harbour view. The master bedroom is attached to the living area, and the two others (one a twin) are in a second bungalow separated from the main house by the prettiest little Japanese garden, which comes alive at night with magical lighting. As do all the grounds, with Japanese lanterns around the pool and concealed spotlights in the trees. And let's not forget the stunning backdrop of the picturesque harbour twinkling away below and the lights of the neighbouring islands across the Caribbean, from St Kitts all the way round to Saint Maarten. This is a view which will keep you captivated day, night, and even in between, as you admire the fabulous sunsets.
